Addressing the topic of cultural appropriation through the lens of fashion while giving recognition to the affected culture.
Displaying the stark contrast between the fashion industry and indigenous designers and how they represent Native American culture. As a person that is both Puerto Rican and African-American, I am more comfortable expressing my Puerto Rican origins because I am more knowledgeable about that culture. On the other hand, I don’t know much of the origins of my father’s side of the family and being ignorant makes it hard to appreciate the culture and express it without feeling the potential backlash from people who embody that culture entirely.
